I am the manager of this website in my capacity as the Personal Assistant of Prof. Dr Theunis Piersma. I’m based in The Netherlands in the Conservation Ecology Group of the University of Groningen where I work as molecular ecologist, and I’m the Chair of the International Wader Study Group.

My research interests

  • Diet DNA barcoding – with Prof. Dr Christiaan Both I’m developing DNA barcoding techniques to describe the arthropod diet of Pied Flycatchers and Black-tailed Godwit chicks.
  • Flyway evolution – together with Dr Jesse Conklin I study the evolution of flyways in shorebirds.
  • Ruffs – anything about Ruffs; currently I collaborate with Dr Clemens Kuepper and Prof. Dr Bart Kempenaers from the Max Planck Institute for Ornithology.

My recent publications

You can find my publications on my Google scholar page and my personal page on the website of the University of Groningen.

A recent publication I’m proud of is the review I wrote in the Dutch journal ‘Limosa’ about the discovery of the supergene in ruff by Clemens Kuepper and his team.
