The largest ostrich dinosaur was found

The ostrich dinosaur from North America: it weighs more than 800 kg

Scientists found the remains of ornithomimosaurs, or “dinosaurs imitating birds. Outwardly, they resembled ostriches. This species had a small head, long arms and strong legs. According to the analysis, the new fossils, including the foot bones, are about 85 million years old. These are the oldest fossils found, allowing scientists to learn more about a hitherto unknown period of North American dinosaur evolution.

The authors of the new study found that the fossils probably represent two separate species of ornithomimosaurs. One individual is very small and the other is quite large, especially if you compare the proportions of the fossils and the pattern of growth within the bones.

Scientists estimate that the larger species weighed more than 800 kilograms, while the second individual was probably still developing when it died. This makes it one of the largest ornithomimosaurs ever discovered.

The ostrich-like dinosaurs from Mississippi discovered are among the largest in the world. The findings have improved our understanding of the dinosaur environment in eastern North America.

The Utah Formation is a geological formation in North America, within the U.S. states of Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi.
